Safety
Varsity Trip is all about skiing hard and partying hard in the stunning French Alps. However, the mountains can be
dangerous places. By taking just a few simple precautions you can stay safe and make the most of an awesome
experience.
On the slopes
- Don't ski on your own; always go with at least one friend. At the very least let someone know what you're
doing
- Keep your mobile on you so you can ring the VT number if you get stuck
- Keep a map of the pistes in your pocket in case you get lost, or download our iPhone app which includes a
mountain map
- Don't push yourself too far and do stay within your own limits
- Don't ski down closed runs and we would strongly advise not going off-piste unless you are with a guide
(most insurance doesn't cover un-guided off-piste anyway).
In the town
- Dress very warmly, especially when out at night on the socials. Temperatures plummet after dark and most
clubs won’t let you in if you don’t have a coat. We’ll make sure that the free cloakrooms at our events have
plenty of space.
- Don't wander off on your own at night. If you can't find anyone you know ask a VT rep to walk with you.
- Keep an eye out for your friends; if a mate is looking a bit worse for wear then help them to get home. You
can always come back out afterwards knowing they're safe.
If you encounter a serious problem then don’t wait before raising the alarm. Get straight in contact with a rep or
dial the emergency number on your wristband. Above all, '''enjoy yourself''' and have a fantastic Varsity Trip -
just remember, Val Thorens is not quite the same as Oxford or Cambridge!
