After the sell-out success of last year's Comedy Night we'll be bringing you a repeat performance for Varsity Trip 2011. This year's show promises to be bigger and better than ever before with a top headline comedian and a sidesplitting supporting line-up.
Work-hard play-hard is all well and good but if you're a bit worn out then there is no better way to spend an evening than relaxing with a cold drink and enjoying some top comedy. For just £12 you can spend your Tuesday evening listening to gags and gaffs galore at 'The Forum'. Make sure you grab a ticket before they all sell out, since this will definitely be a hugely popular event.
Marcus Brigstocke, of 'Have I Got News For You' fame, will be headlining the event. Brigstocke appears frequently on Radio 4 and played a cameo role in the hit film Love Actually. He has recently finished a tour of the UK entitled 'God Collar', and in the past has been immersed in the French language on the BBC Two show 'Excuse My French'. With such a high class comedy performer you’d be crazy to miss out.
Jen Brister will be appearing again this year following her incredibly popular performance at last year's Varsity Trip Comedy Night. Having just returned from a tour of Australia in a new stand up show, 'Jen Brister is British(ish)' at the Adelaide & Melbourne Comedy Festivals to a raft of great reviews, and another round of the Edinburgh Fringe, she will doubtless be putting this material to good use as she again delights an Oxbridge crowd.
Describing himself as an 'Occult Comedian', O'Neill is a humourist, musician and writer who has recently completed a tour of the UK. Nominated for the 2009 Chortle Award Breakthough Act, his recent work includes warming up the crowd for Never Mind The Buzzcocks and recording a Christmas EP with his band 'The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing'. O'Neill has also done primetime comedy with Steve Coogan, dabbled in reality TV, and had dozens of sketches broadcast on Radio 1.
Having just won the award for the best joke of the Edinburgh Fringe ("I needed a password eight characters long, so I picked Snow White and the Seven Dwarves"), Helm will soon be heading to the Alps to entertain some lucky Varsity Trip participants. He’s recently appeared in the E4 comedy 'Show and Tell' and as an up-and-coming act has received praise from Jimmy Carr, who describes him as 'so fucking funny'. If you can’t wait until December to hear him, meanwhile, Helm has just released an Album on iTunes called 'Keep Hold of the Gold'.
The Oxford Imps will be supporting these professional comedians, and perhaps teaching them a thing or two about student comedy in the process. Having clocked up over 100 shows at the Edinburgh Fringe as well as touring the USA, Bosnia and the Netherlands these guys are far from amateurs, and will doubtless hold their own amongst a line-up of never-before-seen pedigree.
