    Being a beginner on Varsity

Don’t worry if you’re a newbie on the slopes - Varsity Trip is the perfect place to start skiing or snowboarding! Usually around 30% of participants on the trip are complete beginners so we’ve designed the trip with you in mind. We have a special beginners package, ensuring you get the best value introduction to the sport you will ever find. And there is loads to do on the trip that does not even involve skiing - so even if you don’t turn out to be mad keen on it you’ll still have the time of your life!

Lots of people are put off coming on Varsity Trip because they have never skied before. But what most don’t realise is just how common it is to come on the trip having never put on skis before and how much there is to do on the trip even if you are not a keen skier. We have a loaded events timetable with non-stop music, comedy and social entertainment, so it’s really a big party in a ski resort where you can hang out with all your uni friends out of term time. Lots of Oxbridgers, lots of events, lots of entertainment and no work. And as skiing is seriously fun we have made it as cheap and easy as possible for you to give it a go. You will never get a better opportunity in your life to try it.

Around a third of varsity-trippers each year have never set foot in a ski resort so you will not be alone if you’ve never given it a try. We make a huge effort to cater the trip to people like you. For those new to the snow, Varsity Trip offers a beginners’ package tailored to make your first experience memorable, fun and great value. Whether it’s skiing or snowboarding that tickles your fancy, the package includes everything you need to start sliding. See beginners package for more information.

Speeding down the slopes attached to a couple of planks of wood doesn’t necessarily sound that safe or fun. But, lucky, the 'speeding' part is in fact optional. The first thing you will learn when you start to ski is the snowplough, which enables you to regulate your speed very easily, and you will know how to stop before you've even picked up enough speed to make it worthwhile. Snow is soft, pistes can be very shallow and there's always a bar at the bottom. You will actually feel very safe and it’s a really fun, thrilling feeling sliding on the snow - just like tobogganing but standing up.
